Basil orange juice: two ingredients, a little more care

Orange juice with a small turn of attention: a few basil leaves crushed into the glass, half an hour in the fridge, and an ordinary drink becomes something made on purpose. 2 ingredients, no cooking.

Oranges are a source of vitamin C, which is involved in immune function and in the body's collagen building, and the juice carries potassium as well. Juice concentrates whole-fruit sugar, though, so this is a small, occasional pleasure rather than a daily pour, and freshly squeezed with nothing added is the better choice.

Crush the basil, pour the juice, and let it sit. When you come back, notice the herb in the smell before you drink. The waiting is part of it.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 4 to 6 fresh basil leaves

Method

Divide the basil leaves between two glasses and crush them lightly against the bottom with a spoon to release their oils.

Top each glass with orange juice, then refrigerate for about 30 minutes so the basil can flavor the juice. Stir once and serve cold.

A closing note

No appliance is needed, only a little patience. Pour it into a glass you like, and let the small act of care be part of the pleasure.
